Is the DeWalt DCD996 a better tool than the DCD999 if I don’t have a FlexVolt battery? If I do have a FlexVolt, does it push the 999 into a separate (better) class?
I wouldn’t say better necessarily, the Flexvolt will give you increased run time.
I’d wait for all the rest of the new models to come out and see what DeWalt does with the power stack batteries.
The 999 is a better tool than the 996 period. Even with standard batteries it is more powerful than the 996. With Flexvolt batteries the 999 becomes even more powerful.
It will be interesting to see what the new models might bring. They haven’t announced any new full-size drills yet but one would expect they are coming later in the year. They did announce new compact drills at World of Concrete earlier this year; the DCD805 hammer drill and the DCD800 standard model. Both have much better specs than the ones they replace, but they haven’t hit the market yet. Supposedly those will be out this month (March 2022).
